Scooters from all over converged in to the town of Thurmont Md. for a great cause. Scootertronics with Scooter Mike and Tommy Thunder, The Mid Atlantic Scooter Racing Commission, The over the belly scooter club, Thurmont’s own scooter club and Brickyard Recording Studios helped put on a ride and rally to benifit the Thurmont food bank.
The turnout was great despite of the chance of rain. We had 35-40 scoots show upat Scootertronics. They cam from all over Md. Va. and Pa. There were Genuine Buddy’s , Vespas (new and vintage), Piaggio, Kymco, Apillia, Eton, Keeway , Honda Ruckus, Asian and more incuding a Harley and a Beull.
We took a great ride through the town of Thurmont thru a covered bridge, apple orchards and on up the mountain. There were a lot of cool twisty’s and even a little distance on the real gravel back roads as we climbed into the Catoctin Mountains. We the when through the small tow of Sabillesville on on up to Cascade.
Our first stop was a GT’s, a small gas station with a deli and great food. We rolled in there and filled the parking lot with scooters. I told them last week we would be coming through but they had no idea. By the time we were done we wiped out their Hot food section. Every one at that point were taking about scooters and eating so they could ride some more. After feeding our faces and gasing scooters we were off again.
I led the ride now and we were off to High Rock. This is a beautiful out look that you can see as far as the eye can see. After we were almost at the top I raced ahead to get video of all the scoots coming up. There were four Harley Davidsons pulling out and they kinda looked over at like yea ok scooter then they started off and were blocked by what seemed loike a neverending line of scooters with a Harley and a Buell with us. That was so cool! Everyone ooooed and ahhhhhed at the veiw and then we headed back down.
We now went through the Catoctin Mountain Park via Park Central Drive through some beautiful hardwood forests and winding twisting roads and all down hill. It was so cool and every body was enjoying the great ride. Down down down … to Rt 77 and back to Scootertronics in Thurmont.
After a short break it was off to the Thunder compound for a barbecue.
The ride was about 17 miles through the foothills and farmland from Thurmont to New Windsor. We pulled in and scooters filled the yard. Pulled Pork Barbecue, Southern Potato salad, Southern Macaroni salad, Cucumber and Onion Salad, Chips and Ice Tea were on the menu. Everyone ate and talked about the ride and the day went without a problem and no rain!
