Thurmont Scooter Daze

Scooters from all over converged in to the town of Thurmont Md. for a great cause. Scootertronics with Scooter Mike and Tommy Thunder, The Mid Atlantic Scooter Racing Commission, The over the belly scooter club, Thurmont’s own scooter club and Brickyard Recording Studios helped put on a ride and rally to benifit the Thurmont food bank.

The turnout was great despite of the chance of rain. We had 35-40 scoots show upat Scootertronics. They cam from all over Md. Va. and Pa. There were Genuine Buddy’s , Vespas (new and vintage), Piaggio, Kymco, Apillia, Eton, Keeway , Honda Ruckus, Asian  and more incuding a Harley and a Beull.

We took a great ride through the town of Thurmont thru a covered bridge, apple orchards and on up the mountain. There were a lot of cool twisty’s and even a little distance on the real gravel back roads as we climbed into the Catoctin Mountains. We the when through the small tow of Sabillesville on on up to Cascade.

Our first stop was a GT’s,  a small gas station with a deli and great food. We rolled in there and filled the parking lot with scooters. I told them last week we would be coming through but they had no idea. By the time we were done we wiped out their Hot food section. Every one at that point were taking about scooters and eating so they could ride some more. After feeding our faces and gasing scooters we were off again.

I  led the ride now and we were off to High Rock. This is a beautiful out look that you can see as far as the eye can see. After we were almost at the top I raced ahead to get video of all the scoots coming up. There were  four Harley Davidsons pulling out and they kinda looked over at like yea ok scooter then they started off and were blocked by what seemed loike a neverending line of scooters with a Harley and a Buell with us. That was so cool! Everyone ooooed and ahhhhhed at the veiw and then we headed back down.

We now went through the Catoctin Mountain Park via Park Central Drive through some beautiful hardwood forests and winding twisting roads and all down hill. It was so cool and every body was enjoying the great ride. Down down down … to Rt 77 and back to Scootertronics in Thurmont.

After a short break it was off to the Thunder compound for a barbecue.

The ride was about 17 miles through the foothills and farmland from Thurmont to New Windsor. We pulled in and scooters filled the yard. Pulled Pork Barbecue, Southern Potato salad, Southern Macaroni salad, Cucumber and Onion Salad, Chips and Ice Tea were on the menu. Everyone ate and talked about  the ride and the day went without a problem and no rain!

Scooter shop or Motorcycle shop to buy a scooter ?

Buying a scooter, Scooter Shop or Motorcycle Shop?

Scooters are a very unique mode of transportation; widely different from most modern motorcycles. Consequently, many motorcycle shops that carry scooters lack the knowledge and/or passion necessary to provide the best buying experience. While there are motorcycle shops that are knowledgeable about scooters, they are few and far between. On the other hand, every scooter specific shop we’ve had the pleasure of visiting has been passionate and knowledgeable about scooters. In their cases they have to be, it’s their core business.

A shining example of what a great scooter shop should be is Scootertronics of Thurmont Maryland. They combine the three most important ingredients for a successful scooter shop, great brands (Linhai, TNG ,Keeway and more) a top notch mechanic (Tommy Thunder), and a wonderful staff (Scooter Mike, Mary “Thunder” Chaffee). Those three ingredients sum up the huge benefit of doing business with a scooter specific shop. You get a knowledgeable staff who knows the product, wonderful mechanical support, and well as the fact that you are supporting a local establishment that gives back to the scootering community.

On the flip side, while we’ve never had a bad scooter experience in a motorcycle focused shop, our experiences have never been quite as good as a scooter-centric shop. The motorcycle focused shops definitely don’t have the knowledge of the scooter shops, and the passion is normally not as high.
Basically it all boils down to supporting those who support the scootering scene. Scooter shops have the knowledge, passion, and desire to support and grow the local scootering community. While motorcycle focused shops aren’t necessarily doing anything bad to the scootering community, they’re definitely not doing as much as the scooter-only shops. My grandfather always said ” do business with those who do business with you.” For most scooterists that is without a doubt the scooter shop.

Check out Scootertronics on the web at scootertronics.com or come out and see them in person at 104 Frederick Rd in Thurmont Maryland 21788 .They are right across from the Cozy Inn at the base of the Catoctin Mountains .

This is a great town and a great place to buy and ride your scooter. Scootertronics has many local rides and clubs that you can participate with to get the great scooter experiance . They are also working on a vintage scooter museum and the race scooters all over the mid Atlantic. So  come in and check them out.

Scooter Daze was a blast

This past weekend Scootertronics hosted Scooter Daze . This was an event for all scooters and we had a great time . There were a good bit over scooters and club members here. We had a group that came from www.totalruckus.com . They are a great bunch of guys who really have tricked out their scoots. They had all the bling and plenty of fast scooters. They came in about 10 scooters strong and the day started out .

Tommy Thunder was in the shop and doing all free labor for people who bought parts from www.scootertronics.com at the show .We also offered 10% all parts and accesories that day. The first scooter on the lift and getting hopped up by Tommy was an RX 150 . Tommy installed an NCY complete trans kit , clutch ,variator, torqe spring , face plate and clutch plate also 9gm Dotor Pulley Slider weights. The scooter did much better and got to top speed twice as fast. The customer was toally happy with the results.

The next scooter on the lift was for Tae K . He is crossing the US on a 50cc Ruckus and has just started his journey. Here is some of his words:

Oh, let me introduce myself.
I’m from Korea. My name is Tae Kyeong. But I know it’s difficult to call.
So call me ‘K’. haha
I want to cross U.S on a Ruckus.
So I came here in the U.S

Actually I told my parents. I wanna study in Canada. But it’s lie.
I’m sorry father, mother, Grand mother. But I believe it will be better and more interesting.
OK. It’s start.
Finally I’m started 2days ago.

He ended up here at Scootertronics and is now on his way. Tommy installed a scooter ninja variator and some doctor pulley 6.5gr slider weights to his scooter. This helped with take off speed and faster to top speed. T was happy with his upgrades. Scootertronics donated all parts and labor to him for his journey across the US . You can follow him and his trip here http://totalruckus.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=39030 .

Tommy then did a lot of tech help and continued to have a great day with all the scooters.

Thanks also to Bill form www.marylandscooterclub who stoped out to see what was going on. Bill runs a club in Maryland that does a lot of scooter rides . Check them out

Tommy also went for a ride with a Ruckus that has a Zuma engine conversion . He rode the Zuma Race scooter and the Green Lantern scooter was bad ass fast .Tommy left for a bit but than he passed him going down the road and could not keep up. Damm that scooter is fast but the Zuma is set up for out of the hole speed for the small tracks and would love to race for real on the track. There would be no chance with the Ruckus then but ya know only the track can tell the real story. So I did call the Green Lantren Ruckus out .Lets see if he accepts the challange.

There was Scooter Tech , scooter rides , upgrades  , music and more all in all a great day at Scootertronics Scooter Daze
